Fitness & Recreation Programs for October

October Fitness and Recreation Calendar :) There are a couple changes from the September schedule, including a shorter M, W, F morning Fitness Class. We will now be offering a Cardio and Core class from 7-7:30 on those days.
  • There will be a Double Elimination Dodgeball Tournament 10/10 at 8pm!
  • In order to participate you must have a team registered
  • Registration forms are available at Spring Point, Surfsite or the security desk in the HUB and must be turned in to Julia Howe, by Friday 10/3 at 5pm...forms received after that will not be counted!! 
  • The tournament will accept up to 12 teams, first come first serve. 
  • Team rosters can have 10 people max but during the games there will only be 8 people allowed on the floor at one time.
  • Prizes will be awarded to the winners :D 
SMCC is here to help students balance the demands of school, family, and employment. Counseling and Disability Services is starting a new Anxiety Management Group for students who may need help to achieve success. The group will meet Thursdays from 12-1 p.m. for 6 weeks starting  Oct. 16. For more information, students can email counseling@smccME.edu or call 741-5629.

Big Brothers Big Sisters 

Looking for students interested in working one on one with kids at Kaler Elementary and Small Elementary Schools in South Portland. 

Volunteers would work with students during the lunch time hour, once a week.

Make It Happen @ Deering H.S.

Make It Happen Program at Deering High School is looking for students to volunteer in the Multicultural Program. 

Volunteers would be responsible for committing to one hour a week to help Deering High students with homework help, and activities focused on academic success.

Winter Kids 

Program and Outreach Intern

WinterKids is seeking a Program and Outreach Intern to help promote and expand our programs. This position requires an outgoing individual who is passionate about our mission to get kids outside and active in the winter. The candidate should also be self-motivated, possess a high attention to detail, and be able to communicate well to a variety of stakeholders. This position will communicate and work directly with the WinterKids’ Program Director. 
This is a volunteer position with travel reimbursement. The position will be 5-10 hours a week from October 2014 – April 2015. Students with interest in education, non-profits, program development, community relations, and recreation are encouraged to apply. Development Intern

WinterKids is seeking a Development Intern to assist staff with event preparation, database maintenance, and donor acknowledgments. This position requires an individual who is passionate about our mission-to help children develop healthy lifelong habits through fun, outdoor winter activity. Our Development intern should also be self-motivated, able to work well independently with direction, and possess a keen attention to detail. The individual will communicate and work directly with the Manager of Special Events & Annual Giving, and the Executive The Development Intern position is approximately 4 hours/week from October 1, This position is a volunteer position with travel reimbursement. South Portland Offering Lifeguard Course

WANTED:

Lifeguards (Ages 15 Plus)
Register today for American Red Cross Lifeguard Training at an aquatics facility near you. Learn lifesaving skills to help keep people safe in, on and around the water.

Prerequisites:
·         Swim 300 meters using Front Crawl or Breaststroke
·         Tread Water 2 Minutes (only using legs)
·         Swim 20 yards, dive down 10 ft, retrieve an object, swim back 20 yards
