Let’s Talk about Sex
A
documentary film exploring perceptions and attitudes sex and sexual activity in
American adolescents. “We live in a society that uses sex to sell everything
from lipstick to laptops. Yet fear and silence around sex and sexuality also
permeate our culture. Teens are paying a terrible price for this confusion in
unintended pregnancy, STDs, and even HIV… [but] American taxpayers are paying
billions to treat these entirely preventable problems.” Through intimate
interviews with teens, parents, and professionals in the field, director James
Houston challenges the viewer to confront uncomfortable subject matter a
societal and personal level.

Sexual Assault Response Services of Southern Maine
SARSSM
is a Portland based non-profit working to provide resources for victims and
survivors of sexual assault and violence. Part of their mission includes a
24-hour crisis hotline, and quality community based out-reach, awareness, and
education programming. For the SMCC event, SARSSM will be speaking about
prevention and awareness regarding sexual assault for victims, family members,
friends, and by-standers. SARSSM will also discuss consent, and help outline
basic definitions of sexual violence and crimes.
Wednesday October 23rd ~ 7:00-8:30pm in Jewett Hall:
“Everything you wanted to know but were too afraid
to ask: toys, consent, & sexual health” Presented by Nomia
Nomia, Portland's first women owned and operated sensuality boutique, and the Frannie Peabody Center, will be teaming up
to talk about sexual health, STIs, consent, and sex toys for individuals or
couples. The two speakers are ready to answer any and all questions. They are
willing to give you the skinny on everything from the sexually transmitted
diseases, HIV/AIDS, the anatomy of pleasure and techniques, healthy sexual consent, and a walk-through of the finest adult toys and accessories available . Bring your
questions, and get ready to have some fun talking about all things sex.

Condom Casino
This
highly interactive program uses casino games and condoms to relate to the
“CAMPUS HOOK UP CULTURE”. This unique combination of casino play masterfully
intertwined with topics like safe sex, sexual consequences, sexual choices and
sexual identity guarantees to create a compelling and thought provoking evening
for any college student. Games like Beer Goggle Black Jack, STD Bingo, and the
Lucky In Love Dice game all combine an awareness component while still keeping
the sizzle of a real Vegas casino. It is fun, it is fast paced, it is full of
surprises and it is certainly a safe bet to sex awareness!

Run For Your Life: Zombie Run is an event hosted by SMCC’s Health and Wellness Club. Free to SMCC students (with valid student ID), $5.00 entrance fee for all other community members. Registration starts at 6:00pm, with the run starting at 6:30 pm. All proceeds will be donated to the SMCC Campus Food Pantry. Evade scary ghosts, brain dead zombies, and evil spirits alike as you make your way around the haunted SMCC campus. Come out, support the undead, and run for your life! !

Come join members of the Theater Club as they create scary scenes throughout our haunted campus. Tour the haunted graveyard, and become enchanted by lovely mermaids, but be careful, you never know what kinds of evil are lurking in the dark corners of SMCC. If you have kids, that is OK! With two show times, both nights will be filled with fun for the whole family. Come prepared, and walk if you dare.

Experience Iranian Art & Culture at USM
On Thursday, October 10th, the University of Southern Maine will open the exhibit:
"Persian Visions: Contemporary Photography from Iran".

Art Department Visiting Scholar, Robert Silberman, will be on hand for the gallery talk and opening reception, from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. at the USM Art Gallery, USM Gorham campus.
The exhibition's 58 works of photography will be divided & displayed at both the USM Art Gallery (Gorham campus), along with two video installations and the AREA Gallery (Woodbury Campus Center, Portland campus).

Teach-In Iran will be held on Wednesday, November 6, noon - 1:30 p.m. at the Area Gallery, Woodbury Campus, USM Portland Campus.
On Saturday, November 23rd, Portland Ovations will host a performance by Persian musician Kayhan Kalhor at USM's Hannaford Hall on the Portland campus Kalhor, a four-time Grammy Award nominee, plays an instrument known as the kamancheh, a four-stringed, upright fiddle. The USM Office of Multicultural Students Affairs has arranged for some limited discounted tickets ($10 a person) for community members, students, and friends.
