Program of the Year and Student Organization of the Year are two new categories that have been added to our student recognition awards. Please join us in congratulating our inaugural winners: SMCC's Veteran's Club as the inaugural winner of Program of the Year and The Gaming Club as Student Organization of the Year.

In November of 2012, the Veteran's Club hosted several events during Veteran's Week. The week started with a fellow veterans and supporters, the celebration was especially moving as Prisoners of War and those who have gone Missing in Action were recognized. This recognition carried on to campus with a POW/MIA flag raising ceremony at the center of the South Portland campus. Representatives from World War II through each war and conflict (including present day) passed the flag in memory of those we have lost. It was a week filled with support and information.

The Gaming Club has been one of the fastest growing organization on campus this school year. Through the camaraderie of the students, it's maintained a friendly and enjoyable environment for anyone who has participated. Not only do students gather together to play games, they build friendships and help each other through tough spots in their lives by providing a friendly escape through games with friends.

Please join us in congratulating the students and organizations that build a strong community for Southern Maine Community College.

Spring Fest 2013 Recap

While the weather was more windy than we would have liked on our BBQ day, the turnout was steady and it was fun seeing students enjoy the zip line, bouncy jousting, bungee run and dunk tank. Many thanks to all that help make the dunk tank a great success. We raised over $300.00 and gained a good amount of food to support our future SMCC Food Pantry.

If you didn't have an opportunity to pick up a free T-Shirt, stop by the CeSIL office. We still have a few remaining.

The CeSIL Report for Wednesday, May 1

SMCC YSCC Conference Champions

Congratulations to SMCC's Women's Softball and Men's Baseball teams!  This past weekend, both teams won their respective 2013  Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) tournaments.

The SMCC softball team traveled to New Hampshire Technical Institute (NHTI) for the YSCC tournament. The Seawolves started out the day by beating Eastern Maine Community College (EMCC) in the semi-final round by a score 8-4. With the win, SMCC advanced to the championship game against rival Central Maine Community College (CMCC).

The Seawolves continued to have the hot bat as they scored in 5 different innings. The Mustangs didn't give up as they put together a run late to tie it up in the top of the 6th innings. SMCC held tough and was able to put up 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning on CMCC and was able to pull out an 11-9 victory and become the YSCC tournament champions. With the 2 victories today, SMCC finishes their season with a 9-17 overall record and the bragging rights of being the 2013 Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) Champions.

The SMCC baseball team hosted the YSCC tournament last weekend. The Seawolves were able to take down rival New Hampshire Technical Institute (NHTI) in the championship game after earning a bye from the semi-final round. Leading the way for the Seawolves and earning tournament Most Outstanding Offensive Player was freshman first baseman Zachary Horton (South Portland, ME) who went 2 for 3 from the plate while scoring a run.

With the win, SMCC improves to 22-20-1 overall and becomes the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) tournament champions. After the Seawolves take a few days off to enjoy the win, the Seawolves will host Bridgton Academy (BA) this Friday, May 3rd. This game is the first of a 3 game series for the 302 Challenge Cup with the game starting at 4:00PM
